Student Fees Structure and Policy
Effective Term Approved: Fall 2014

The Board of Regents policy referencing Student Fees and Special Charges (7.3.2) offers certain guidelines for institutions as follows:

Mandatory Student Fees: An institution may waive mandatory fees for students enrolled for fewer than six credit hours. Alternatively, institutions may prorate fees on a per credit hour basis for students taking fewer than 12 credit hours.

Waiver of Mandatory Fees: An institution may waive mandatory fees, excluding technology for:

  1. Students that reside or study at another institution.
  2. Students enrolled in practicum experiences or internships located at least 50 miles from the institution.
  3. Student enrolled in distance learning courses or programs that are not also enrolled in on-campus courses.
  4. Student enrolled in off-campus centers.

Additionally, the resolution approved by the Board of Regents on April 12, 2012 offers the following instruction regarding the Special Institutional Fee:

Exemption

  1. All active duty military students
  2. Dual enrolled students
  3. Cross-registered students at multiple institutions who pay the Special Institutional Fee at the home institution only
  4. Students who typically do not pay fees such as senior citizens

Reduction by 50%

  1. Students taking less than five credit hours
University of Georgia Mandatory Fee Policy

Green, Technology and ConnectUGA:

  • Fall and Spring: Students are assessed the standard green, technology and ConnectUGA fees.
  • Summer (Green): Students are assessed two thirds (2/3) of the previous fall term green fee.
  • Summer (Technology and ConnectUGA): Students are assessed two thirds (2/3) of the previous fall technology and ConnectUGA fee for any part of the summer term regardless of the combination of sessions.
  • Fall, Spring and Summer: UGA will not assess students these mandatory fees under the following circumstances:
    1. Students utilizing the Tuition Assistance Program
    2. Students aged 62 or over
    3. Administrative (President’s/Provost’s authorization or exceptional circumstances)
    4. Georgia Regents University Agreements
    5. U.S. Military Reserve and Georgia National Guard Combat Veteran (as defined by BOR )

Special Institutional Fee: (no longer assessed effective Fall 2022).

Fall, Spring and Summer: Students are assessed as follows:

  1. The full special institutional fee if they have five (5) or more credit hours.
  2. 50% of the full institutional fee if they are enrolled in less than five (5) credit hours.

UGA will not assess students this fee under the following circumstances:

  1. Students utilizing the Tuition Assistance Program
  2. Students aged 62 or over
  3. Students classified as active duty military as approved by the Registrar’s Office
  4. Dual enrolled students
  5. Cross-registered students at multiple institutions who pay the special institutional fee at the home institution
  6. Administrative (President’s/Provost’s authorization or exceptional circumstances)
  7. Georgia Regents University Agreements - U.S. Military Reserve and Georgia National Guard Combat Veteran (as defined by BOR).

Transportation Fee:

Fall and Spring: Students are assessed the transportation fee if taking one (1) or more credit hours on the UGA home campus.

Summer: Students are assessed the transportation fee if taking one (1) or more credit hours on the UGA home campus. Students are assessed two thirds (2/3) of the previous fall term transportation fee.

Fall, Spring and Summer: Students are not assessed the transportation fee and services are not provided under the following circumstances:

  1. Students taking all courses off-campus
  2. Students taking all courses online
  3. Students taking all courses with instructions types titled directed study, asynchronous instructions, practice teaching, internship, practicum, thesis/dissertations, master’s thesis, and doctoral dissertation
  4. Students utilizing the Tuitions Assistance Program
  5. Administrative (President’s/Provost’s authorization or exceptional circumstances)
  6. Special Agreements
  7. Students aged 62 or over

Students not assessed due to the circumstances above will be able to self‐assess and pay transportation in order to receive the associated services.

Fees are not assessed but related services are provided for Georgia Regents University Agreement students.

Fees are not assessed but related services are provided for U.S. Military Reserve and Georgia National Guard Combat Veteran (as defined by BOR).

Note: Students in full-time benefit eligible positions who are not utilizing the Tuition Assistance Program may request an exemption.

Bundled Student Package (Activity, Recreation, Athletic, Health, and Facilities):

Fall, Spring and Summer: Students are assessed the bundled student package if they are registered for a total of six (6) or more credit hour courses designated as face-to-face. (Hours on all campuses count).

Face-to-face courses are defined where courses are not online, directed study, asynchronous instruction, practice teaching, internship, practicum, thesis/dissertation, master’s research/thesis, or doctoral research/dissertation.

Fees are assessed based on the campus of the student’s primary program of study.

Students with less than six (6) credit hours on all campuses will be able to self-assess and pay any of these bundled fees in order to receive the associated services. Facility Fee and Recreation Fee are listed as one choice with in the list of bundled fees.

A student paying the Athletic Fee is not guaranteed athletic tickets. The Athletic Department has a number of requirements in addition to paying the athletic fee to be considered eligible. Student Ticket Information

Summer: Athens students are assessed two thirds (2/3) of the previous fall term bundled student package fee for Activity, Recreation, Health, and Facilities. In the summer an Athletic fee is not assessed to students. The extended campuses are assessed two thirds (2/3) of their own rate that was in effect for the previous Fall term.

Fall, Spring and Summer: Fees are not assessed and related services are not provided for the following circumstances:

  1. Students taking all courses off-campus
  2. Students taking all courses online
  3. Students taking all courses with instructions types titled directed study, asynchronous instructions, practice teaching, internship, practicum, thesis/dissertations, master’s research/thesis, and doctoral research/dissertation
