COVID-19 Special Refund Questions and Answers

When can I expect to receive my refund?

Refund processing will begin the week of March 30, 2020 and will continue through April 10, 2020. If you are certain you should have received a refund and haven’t received it by April 10, 2020, please reach out to stuacct@uga.edu.

Refunds associated with Study Abroad/Study Away programs that have been suspended or cancelled are in process and will be issued on an on-going basis. You will receive a separate communication once refunds for these programs are finalized.

How will I receive my refund?

If your payment or portion of your payment for spring semester was made with a credit card, your refund will be processed back to the card (up to the amount the card was used to make payment).

If you previously set up a refund profile in ATHENA you will receive your refund via direct deposit to the bank account designated as of March 30, 2020. All students are encouraged to set up or review their existing refund profile by 11:59PM EST March 30, 2020. Please make any necessary refund profile changes so you can receive your refund as quickly as possible. Instructions on setting up your refund profile are located at: https://busfin.uga.edu/bursar/athena_refund_profile_setup.pdf

If you do not set up a refund profile for direct deposit, a check will be mailed to the Student Account address in ATHENA. Please review/update this address by March 30, 2020 so you can receive your refund as quickly as possible. Please keep in mind that an incorrect address in ATHENA will delay your receipt of the refund check.

How much should I expect to receive in a refund?

The refund amount will vary based upon student fees and housing and food plan choices paid at the beginning of the spring semester. Please review your account for original charges and then use the refund tools LINK TO REFUND SCHEDULES to determine the amount of your refund. If you still have a question after reviewing your accounts and the information provided, please contact stuacct@uga.edu.

Is it possible that I won’t receive a refund?

You will not receive a refund if:

  • Your charges were covered by a sponsoring organization, including athletic scholarships, and sources from grants, or
  • You did not originally pay one of the charge types now being refunded, or
  • If you have an outstanding balance on your student account. That balance will be satisfied first and any remaining refund amount will be sent to you.

Please first check your spring 2020 student account charges and payments and if you still have a question, contact us at stuacct@uga.edu.
